Sinikiwe Matore, the owner of Rosepet Bookshop in Victoria Falls, appeared briefly on behalf of the bookshop before the resident magistrate, Mr Archibald Dingana, facing allegations of contravening Section 33 (1) (b) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23, “undermining the authority of or insulting the President”.
Matore was remanded out of custody on her own cognisance to 23 March.
It is the State case as presented by the prosecutor, Miss Namatai Ngwasha, that on 17 January and at around 1pm, some police officers were shopping around town when they went into Rosepet Bookshop at Galleria Complex.
While in the bookshop, the officers found a book titled At the Deep End, an autobiography of Tsvangirai authored by William Bango on one of the shelves in the shop.
The officers then developed an interest in the book and they opened it and went through some pages.
During the process, the officers discovered some fliers at the back of the book inscribed ZiMafia, Zimbabwe’s worst eleven.
The fliers were inscribed (The President) Robert Mugabe as the coach of the team of top Government officials.
The officers then recovered nine other books all titled Morgan Tsvangirai, At the Deep End to make the books 10.
Nine of the books allegedly contained the fliers depicting the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces as the coach of the worst eleven Government officials.
They then took the books to Victoria Falls Police Station where after consultations with their superiors, they went back and arrested Matore for the offence.
