Shot Zimbabweans out of danger

TWO Zimbabweans who were shot and wounded by a mob in South Africa on Monday night in the ongoing xenophobic attacks are out of danger and the man has since been discharged from hospital, Zimbabwe’s Consular-General Batiraishe Mukonoweshuro has said.

Proud Ncube,33, was shot in the chest and the bullet went out through his back in an attack that occurred after he had visited his girlfriend, Sandile Moyo, 22, who was also shot in Alexandra, Johannesburg.

“Our embassy staff visited the two at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital today (Wednesday) to check on them physically and they are now in a stable condition. Ncube was discharged from hospital and he is being treated as an outpatient from his house in Tembisa suburb” he said.

The Consular-General said the two were shot with shotguns and their cellphones and cash were taken by the mob.

He said they were working with the South African authorities to ensure that the perpetrators were brought to book.

“We are very hopeful that the suspects will be arrested. The army and the police are carrying out raids on the mobs and we are confident they will get the suspects” he said.

The shooting and the killing of a Mozambican national in the same area has forced South Africa to deploy soldiers to volatile areas in Johannesburg and KwaZulu-Natal.

Emmanuel Sithole, a Mozambican was stabbed to death by four South African men over the weekend in broad-day light while other residents watched helplessly. The four killers appeared in court on Monday and are still in custody.

It is reported that at least seven people have been killed in the ongoing violence.
