MUTARE’S own pride and gospel musician, Blessing Shumba was on Tuesday afternoon handed over his prize money of $1 300 at Mandel Training Centre in Harare after his song, Chimwe nechimwe came out tops in the Radio Zimbabwe Coca-Cola Top 50.
Shumba, who was accompanied by wife, Pauline, could not hide his elation and paid tribute to the organisers for honouring outstanding works and artistes.
Other winners of the Radio Zimbabwe Coca-Cola Top 50 who were also handed over prizes were Winky D who pocketed $1 200 for the best video, while Ex Q and Roki went away with $800 and Dongo took home $500 for their videos.
The soft-spoken singer rushed back to Mutare on Wednesday evening to put final touches on his much-awaited album, Calvary (Holy Psalms Volume Two) which will be officially launched at a local hotel on March 8.
“This is quite an honour. I feel privileged to be recognised as one of the top gospel musicians in the country. I would like to thank God, my family, our fans as well as my entire band for the collective effort.
“2015 was quite a wonderful year and we would like to assure our fans that this year will be greater,” Shumba said.
The gifted preacher revealed that Pauline will feature as a lead vocalist on the forthcoming album on new songs such as ZvaMwari Zvakesari and Ndinotenda, while Shumba will be on backing vocals.
“The forthcoming album will be distinct in so many ways. We always strive to do better each year. We are looking forward to a glamorous album launch,” added the qualified electrician.
This is Shumba’s second award after his album, NdiMwari was voted National Arts Merit Awards 2012 Outstanding Album.
