SHUN CORRUPTION, MAYOR URGES CITY OF HARARE EMPLOYEES

HARARE mayor, Ian Makone, has urged Council employees to abstain from corrupt activities and ensure transparency in stand allocation.

He said the Council will not tolerate corruption and that directors must deal with corrupt individuals.

Makone added that transparency should be a priority, and that all transactions and processes should be clearly documented and open to public scrutiny.

He also emphasised the importance of following established procedures and systems, and ensuring that all employees are competent and properly trained

“I am saying this paying particular attention to the directors. Tikabvisa huori ihwoho hwakaora, zvose zvapera. If the directors are not connected to the process, it won’t happen.

“The responsibility and ownership rests with the directors and we are going to be working closely with them to ensure that our standard operations are responsive to the task at hand.

“As we implement decentralisation, we need to ensure district officers are equipped with the systems and procedures that have survived the test of time for the city,” said Makone.

His remarks come in the wake of reports of corruption within the council, including allegations of illegal land sales and improper disposal of Council assets.
