Shun disunity: Shiri

He said this in a speech read on his behalf by Air Vice Marshal Elson Moyo at the Air Force Commander’s shooting competition which was held on Friday at the Cleveland Rifle Range in the capital.

“Zimbabwe is our home, this is our land, this is where we live and this is where we will die. It is therefore important that we shoot down ideas that seek to engender disharmony, disunity and most importantly, those ideas that desecrate our founding principles,” Air Marshal Shiri said.

“If we do not vacillate on our commitment to defend our Zimbabweaness that our fore-bearers founded, then those who seek our demise will fail.”
He hailed the country’s defence forces for remaining professional and disciplined, helping to secure peace in the country at a time when security forces across the continent and beyond had negated their roles and had become a destabilising force.

The 2013 edition of the Commander Air Force of Zimbabwe shooting competition ran from June 24-28.
The week-long competition was held under the theme: “Nurturing skills at arms through the Commander Air Force of Zimbabwe shooting competition”.

Participants to the shooting competition were drawn from all security forces — Air force of Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Prison Services, Zimbabwe Republic Police and the Zimbabwe National Army.

The competition also attracted surprise participants — musicians, artists, journalists and hoteliers.
The Zimpapers team comprising Herald News Editor Lovemore Chikova, senior photographer John Manzongo and reporter Norah Mutale came fourth among the seven teams they competed against.

Gospel artistes such as Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave, Bethany Pasinawako and renowned sculptor Dominic Benhura were also among the contestants.
