THE High Court sitting in circuit in Gweru, has convicted Shurugwi man, Emmanuel Mahembe of murder after he lured unsuspecting women he dated to secluded places and killed them.
He will be sentenced today. Between August 2021 and September 2022, Mahembe met the first deceased aged 37 at Chachacha Business Centre in Shurugwi.
The two drove in the now deceased’s vehicle, a Honda Fit, to Dhanga dip tank where he murdered her. He wrapped the body in a blanket and buried it on the bed of Gwamamvura River before driving off in the vehicle. He later sold the vehicle.
On May 22, 2021 Mahembe met the second deceased aged 35. He then drove her to his sister’s home in Shurugwi. Along the way, the two had a misunderstanding over money.
The argument escalated and he killed the deceased and dumped the body in a disused mine shaft at Mutevekwi Bridge.
After killing her, Mahembe phoned the deceased’s son and convinced him to send him some money through an EcoCash account.
The matter came to light when the deceased’s relatives became suspicious and alerted the police leading to Mahembe’s arrest.
