TWO Bulawayo men appeared in court on Monday facing charges of fraud after they allegedly conned a Shurugwi man of cash amounting to US$1 015 in a fake mercury deal.
Sandile Thebe (22) of Lobengula West and Thoko Ngwenya (21) of Cowdray Park appeared before Bulawayo magistrate, Ms Beverly Madzikatire, facing alleged fraud charges.
The matter was remanded to December 12 for trial.
Prosecuting, Ms Sibusisiwe Sithole, said allegations are that on the October 16 at around 11AM at Haddon and Sly Building, Corner Fife street and 8th Ave, Bulawayo the two accused persons defrauded Mr Liberty Zhawawo by misrepresenting to him that they could supply 3kgs of mercury.
The court heard that, the Mr Zhawawo gave them cash amounting to US$1 015 after believing what the duo had said.
“After receiving the money, the duo disappeared and failed to deliver the mercury as promised,” said Ms Sithole.
The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of the accused persons.
The total value stolen is US$1 015, and nothing was recovered.
