Shurugwi Town Council has proposed a $4 million budget for 2018, with the council prioritising the purchase of equipment to improve service delivery in the small mining town.
Shurugwi town clerk Mr Solomon Siziba said consultations had begun for next year’s $4 million budget.
“Consultations are ongoing at ward level where we are getting input from the people on our proposed $4 million budget,” he said. “Our major priorities for next year is service delivery and we intend to purchase a refuse compactor so that we improve on waste collection and disposal.”
Mr Siziba said council would also improve health delivery in the town.
“The council is also prioritising health delivery as we intend to equip local clinics so that they can offer maternal health services,” he said. “We intend to rehabilitate Makusha and Mambowa clinics so that they have a maternity wing in order to decongest Shurugwi District Hospital.”
Mr Siziba said the district hospital was congested, a situation that resulted in pregnant mothers opting to deliver at home, increasing their vulnerability to maternal death.
”Our clinics do not offer maternal services, hence the prioritisation of extending health delivery services,” he said.
