Shurugwi Town Council’s town secretary has hailed Chengxi Investments for donating US$10 000 and 600 bags of cement for the maintenance of Fenny Creek water tank.

Addressing journalists recently, town secretary Mr Archibald Ncube said the council is alive to the water challenges faced by residents of Makusha, ZBS and Sebanga Extension who have not been receiving water regularly due to ageing water infrastructure, power outages and low capacity to treat water.

He said Shurugwi is supplying 2,3 megalitres against a demand of 4 megalitres.

“To alleviate the problem, the council has constructed a dedicated line for Manzimdhaka, which is now complete and another dedicated line for Impali which will be completed by end of September,” said Mr Ncube.

“Furthermore, the council has just completed the solarisation of Mambowa Nickel Shaft, which is now at the testing stage.”

He said procurement processes are ongoing for a 2-megalitre prefabricated water tank for Mukukumidzi, which will go a long way in improving water supply for Sebanga Extension and Rensburg Plots.

“Shurugwi Town Council equipped one borehole with solar to assist residents in Wards 8 and 9 with water,” said Mr Ncube.

He said non-revenue water remains a challenge.

“As a local authority, we are alive to this and the council is urging residents to prioritise the purchase of household (water) meters , which will be used to address water estimates,” said Mr Ncube.

He said in its 2026 budget, council will make provision to rehabilitate aged water networks in Makusha suburb.

Mr Ncube said council will do road gravelling and applauded mining companies that came on board to support the local authority through providing gravelling and load equipment.

He also requested the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works for support with equipment.

“Routine and tar patching programmes have been scheduled for this September for most of our roads.

“We are fully aware that the rainy season will soon be upon us, and as such, we have started drain clearing,” said Mr Ncube.

He said the council received ZWG4,4 million for road marking from the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA), and part of the money will be used to buy a roller compactor.

“I’m happy the procurement is going on well. We are again delighted with the enormous support we received from Chengxi Investment, which provided 2 000 litres of diesel for road maintenance,” said Mr Ncube.
