Shurugwi Town Council makes strides in addressing demand for stands

Shurugwi Town Council says it has made significant progress in housing delivery with Layout 3, a virgin land project is awaiting development of the stands as the council is in the process of tendering for a potential developer.

“Council has 135 x 300 square metre residential stands repossessed from a developer who failed to comply with their mandate on the development of the scheme and has been reopened to new bidders,” he said.

“This initiative ensures that stalled land is quickly turned into viable housing, addressing demand while maintaining development quality.”

Mr Ncube said Sheasham Investments which is servicing 432×400 square metre medium density stands where all reticulation systems onsite for water and sewer have been developed is finalising its offsite sewer system and expects completion by end of September.

“Another developer is CGM construction company servicing 602×300 square metre stands and the current status includes 100 percent onsite services including water and sewer reticulation services, having been developed on section,” he said.

Mr Ncube said the Mining Industry Pension Fund has set the benchmark in land development with tarred roads, concreted storm water drains, piped water and overall compliance.

“Their stands are already on sale, reflecting the council’s expectations for quality development,” he said.

Mr Ncube said the council is spearheading the Pamumvuri Market and Bus Terminus project, which will feature four sections, namely taxi and market, flea market and stalls, light hardware and tuckshops.

“Chenxi Investment Group has expressed interest and is actively collaborating with the council to bring its project to life,” he said.

Mr Ncube said the ZBS Market is also taking shape, buoyed by partial funding from community well-wishers.

“Modern SME infrastructure is vital as it organises informal trade, enhances hygiene and order and provides decent working spaces,” he said.

“These projects empower small traders, create jobs, increase council revenue and stimulate the local economy.”
