RISING cyclist Mthokozisi Sibanda emerged as the winner of the Flying Eagles Cycling Club 100-miler classic event held on Saturday.
The race, which had over 100 participants, started in Gweru and ended at Khumalo suburb in Bulawayo.
Sibanda completed the race in a time of 3 hours 39 minutes 46 seconds, with Andrew Chikwakwa (3h 40 min 50 sec) and George Scott (4h 40 min 55 sec) coming in at second and third place respectively.
The race has been taking place on and off since 1958, and the Flying Eagles Cycling Club, one of Bulawayo’s oldest road bike cycling clubs, organised it.
“It was challenging, but I am pleased that I managed to win the race. I must admit it was a tough race and l had to push hard. I am pleased with my performance. I would like to dedicate this victory to my family who have been very supportive,” said Sibanda.
It was a photo finish for the Elite ladies as Hellen Mitchell and Jess Fuller were only separated by a few seconds.
The cycling clubs that took part were from Harare, Zvishavane, Gweru and Bulawayo, and these included Mimosa Mine, Unki Mine MiGYM, Chova, Tsvaira Siyaphambili, Flying Eagles, Skyz and other experienced social riders. ― @innocentskizoe
