BULAWAYO Chiefs FC coach Joseph Sibindi was not only barred from sitting on the bench but also communicating with those on the dugout as his team suffered defeat at the hands of visiting Herentals who produced a spirited second half performance to grab three points on the road.
The reason behind Sibindi watching from the stands was the failure to produce his Premier Soccer League (PSL) licence. Negotiations between PSL and Chiefs officials which started about five minutes before kick-off on the main pitch entrance did not bear any fruit for Chiefs as Sibindi was asked to watch the game from the stands.
Speaking after his side’s loss, Sibindi said he was not sure what the delay had been in him getting his licence.
Interestingly Sibindi was on the bench in Bulawayo Chief’s two wins in a row against Caps United and Triangle.
“I am not sure what is happening. l am sure it’s an administrative issue. My papers were sent as soon as l got appointed as assistant coach. l am not sure what is happening between the PSL and the club administration. l am yet to get a licence.
The match commissioner told me l was not allowed to even communicate with the technical team which made it even more difficult for us to play the way we wanted to.”
His opposite number Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva was over the moon after the victory.
“It’s a great result for us winning against Bulawayo Chiefs. They are a side that has always given us problems in the league. We lost to them in the Chibuku Super Cup but today it was our time, our moment.

We got our revenge. There is nothing sweeter in football than winning from a losing position like we did today. l am happy with the team’s performance,” said Mutiwekuziva.
The two sides had a score to settle prior to the league match to put to rest the argument on who is better than the other after Chiefs beat Herentals FC in the Chibuku Super Cup final last year at Barbourfields Stadium.
This time around the Students had it good on the Castle Lager Premiership encounter. Chirinda opened the scoring for Chiefs after five minutes of play as Chiefs were on the rampage.
They wasted numerous chances before Herentals equalised through Tinotenda Benza on the 40th minute mark. Davison Marowa put the full stop to the lesson the Students had brought to Chiefs after 77 minutes.

His goal won the game for Herentals.
