Sibiya enjoying new lease of life

He moved from relegated Eleven Men in Flight where he ended the season with eight goals to top the club’s scoring charts.
Having shifted to central defence and once in a while enjoying a free role as a utility player, Sibiya said the move had helped him discover some of his capabilities on the field of play.
“Since arriving in Swaziland in 2009 it has been fighting relegation every season for me and last season’s relegation was the worst.

“At Moneni Pirates I am mostly used as a central defender and once in a while given a free role and this has given me a new lease of life in the game,” he said.
Even back home, Sibiya, who joined Chapungu in 2001, endured several relegation fights, he succumbed to relegation in 2003 before joining Highlanders in 2007 and played in the Caf Champions League.

“We are eighth on the 12-team log. We got off to a fairly good start, winning our first three matches and drawing one. But this has changed, with the competition getting tougher we have so far lost four games.
“However I am confident we will finish in the top four. I have not scored any goal so far but my time of glory will come and I am working hard to get the goals and make a difference to my team. One does not enjoy fighting relegation and so I will refocus and get the winning goals,” said Sibiya.

In his 30s and approaching retirement, Sibiya revealed his wish to end his career back home. “Once I am done with my soccer career in Swaziland I would like to bounce back in Zimbabwe before maybe going into coaching. I have not made any choice of the team but I will definitely play Zimbabwe soccer again,” said Sibiya.
