Sikhonjwa fit, back to business

POPULAR Bulawayo stand-up comedian and socialite Babongile Sikhonjwa is now fit, up and about, and back to his usual business after surviving a horror car crash towards the end of last year.Sikhonjwa was involved in a near fatal accident on 22 December last year at Nguboyenja flyover while in the company of fellow comedian Clive Chigubhu.

The two celebrities were coming from an all white party at a local nightspot where South Africa’s DJ Zinhle was performing.

Yesterday the maverick and cheerful Sikhonjwa, made his first public appearance, looking bubbly and fit after being discharged from Mpilo Central Hospital about a fortnight ago, where he spent about two weeks in intensive care.

Sikhonjwa, who wears many hats on the local entertainment scene, was the director of ceremonies at the Choppies Christmas promotion draw held at the Old Mutual Nkulumane Shopping Complex yesterday morning.

The car crash appears not to have taken much, if anything at all, from the comedian who was his usual self, sending the crowd at the draw into stitches and bouts of laughter with his wit.

Sunday News had a brief chat with Sikhonjwa, on the sidelines of the draw and the comedian confirmed his wellbeing and return to showbiz.

“I think I have recuperated well now. I still have a bit of healing to do but work has to be done my man. I love my work and I need the money too. I thank everyone who supported and prayed for me during the time I was in hospital. May God bless them all,” said Sikhonjwa, before he quickly returned to direct the Choppies draw.

Sikhonjwa was involved in the accident after he reportedly failed to negotiate the bend at the Nguboyenja flyover and lost control of the vehicle, a Mercedes Benz C230, resulting in the car hitting a lamp post before it overturned.
