At the end, nothing much separated Silent Killer and Blot when they faced off before a packed City Sports Centre at the weekend.
The two artists were the major highlight at this year’s edition of the Harare Cup Clash where thousands witnessed the explosive cash.
Silent Killer and Blot had raised the tempo after their pre-clash on Star FM last week and fans were expectant of them going head-to-head.
However, organisers Chipaz Promotions had other plans, they let the artists perform individual slots rather than allowing them to clash in song.
Silent Killer who was first on stage brought his A-Game on, shocked fans who backed him by raising placards inscribed “Huru Ngwere”, “Ghetto Defender” and some carrying the artist’s name.
He picked a list of club bangers including Ngwere, Musha Rudzii, Locker Mastreets, Hurungwere, and Hondokondo among others, and commanded a sing-along.
For Blot, who had declared that he was a no pushover, he executed his plan well churning hit after hit much to the appreciation of the fans.
He had claimed his fellow chanters, Silent Killer included, had lost the plot while he was incarcerated and let Zimdancehall be ruled by weak people-“Masalad”.
Grenade as Blot is popularly known for performed songs such as Makutongwa Nemasalad, Simbaredenga, Nhoroondo, Skelewu, Havasati Vandiona, and Ndiri Baad among others.
The event was also a crowning moment for Mbare-bred chanter, Libho, who walked away as the King of Dancehall.
Libho outshined crowd favourite Khonangale who was tipped to win the contest.
The young chanter made his name when he was 12-years-old after making an appearance at Dj Levels’ birthday bash in Mbare.
He went on to release a number of songs including Churu Chemakata, Tariro Gezi, and Wakaita Nharo among others.
I-Candy aka Madzimai was also crowned Queen of Dancehall after shrugging off competition from seven other women.
K-Queen had to concede in the final after she failed to respond to the contest. The fans were the ones voting during the clash.
The event also saw an array of established artists including Killer T, Seh Calaz, Kinnah, Master H, Jah Master, Jah Signal, Hwindi Prezident, and Poptain performing at the event.
Organisers Chipaz Promotions said the event was one of their biggest crowds after the famous Soul Jah Love vs Seh Calaz Sting of November 2014.
They also applauded the fans for behaving well.
The winners will now head to the national finals in December.
