Silobela man faces serious charges in Gweru court for rape of 17-year-old girl

A 45 year-old-man from the Silobela appeared before the Gweru Regional Magistrates’ Court charged with raping a 17 year old girl on November 18 this year.

According to a document from the National Prosecution Authority of Zimbabwe, on the date in question, at around mid-day, the accused person entered the victim’s kitchen while she was asleep and raped her.

It was stated that the victim screamed for assistance.
“A family member responded and observed a male person leaving the area. A community member subsequently informed the victim’s mother that the accused person had confessed to the offence. The victim then disclosed the assault to her parents, who reported the matter to police,” read the statement.

The accused person was remanded in custody to January 12 ths year.
“The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe prosecutes all sexual offences against minors with the utmost seriousness and without exception. Members of the public have a critical responsibility to safeguard vulnerable children and must report all forms of abuse to law enforcement authorities without delay,” read the statement.
