IF there were any doubts about Simba Bhora’s ability to reinvent themselves, victory over ZPC Kariba created a new belief.
On Saturday they finally ended an 18-game wait for three consecutive league victories after edging ZPC Kariba 2-1, the win coming just after they dismantled champions Scottland.
The Shamva-based side had last managed three wins in succession on August 23 last year when they defeated Kwekwe United 3-1 after narrow victories over MWOS and Chicken Inn.
Simba Bhora coach Mandla Mpofu praised his players for showing determination in front of their supporters.
“I’m happy with how the boys performed today, especially coming from that victory over Scottland in our previous game,” said Mpofu.
“I think we are slowly getting there, but we should stay resolute; the boys should put their heads down and take each game as it comes.”
Simba Bhora scored through Webster Tafa from the spot, and they doubled their advantage in the second half through substitute Junior Petrus.
The visitors continued to press forward and were rewarded in the 84th minute when Remington Masuku pulled one back.
ZPC Kariba coach Newman Mashipe felt his side failed to execute their plan despite arriving with intentions of ending Simba Bhora’s fine run.
“We came here knowing Simba were on a fine run, and we thought we were going to change things today, especially on being offensive, but it was not to be as we gave away possession,” said Mashipe.
“Our game plan got affected when two of our starting players felt they could not take any part in the game and we had to change everything.”
