PREMIERSHIP champions Simba Bhora, are making frantic efforts to put things in order ahead of their debut Caf Champions League campaign, but the stadium crisis in Zimbabwe could see them play home matches in Zambia.
The National Sports Stadium, under renovations, is the country’s hope, but indications are that the stadium will only be ready in September and also subject to inspection before use.
Such a situation has left the national teams in a fix and now, the clubs in continental competitions will not be spared, as the cost of participation is increased by playing home matches in foreign land.
Simba Bhora have no choice but to follow the route taken by Ngezi Platinum and Dynamos in the previous editions.
With limited financial resources, Simba Bhora’s owner has reportedly secured a loan worth approximately USD$800 000 using his personal property as collateral.
“With no certainty on local venues, the club has made a more radical approach and is opting for Zambia.
“But Zambia comes with one condition that is a venue in Lusaka, not Ndola. Ndola is very far in terms of proximity to the fans,” said an insider.
“So, if it’s not here, it will be Zambia. The club is not oiled to play in the Caf competitions. A big budget looms and the club patron Simba Ndoro, is dedicated to going an extra mile to make the dream come alive.
“If the prospects of playing in Zambia come into life, the club is already negotiating with a local transport operator to unveil at least 10 buses.”
The 492-kilometre distance between Harare and Lusaka makes it a feasible option for travelling fans, comparable to domestic trips to venues like Chisumbanje.
