Simba how dare you . . ?

0303-1-1-THE QUEEN OF THE SOUTH ON TELEMUNDO IN MARCH ON DSTVJonathan Mbiriyamveka TV
Greetings it must have been a hectic weekend for a lot of folks. Well, yours truly was in Gweru for a memorial and this means that I didn’t watch the Wedding of the Year live on television.  I know a lot of people would have wanted to attend the wedding of President Mugabe’s daughter Bona and Simbarashe Chikore.
A lot was being said about the wedding with those who claim to be in the know feeding the rumour mill with lies and half truths, but that’s the nature of any wedding, people always talk. And one of the things that sparked debate was Simba’s age.

Fortunately, yours truly did not have to rely on the rumour mill on what transpired at the wedding even though I was hundreds of kilometres away from the scene.

In fact, my resourceful daughter who is in Grade Two recorded the wedding ceremony on the PVR decoder while she was enjoying her favourite cartoon “Sofia The First”.

That’s the beauty of the PVR decoder, you can record two channels while watching a third. This means you don’t miss a thing. And the beauty is that you can pause, rewind or fast forward the action.

So yours truly was charmed by the wedding. The setting was fantastic, the programme was excellent and the bride and the groom were stunning .

Being a Catholic myself I could relate to almost everything. Yes, there was an attempt to mix Pentecostal  and traditional church rites but the switches were without any glitches.

And when the BIG moment arrived, I mean exchanging vows, viewers must have  laughed out loud as Simba and Bona opened up. We were told the two used to chat on the phone for a good six hours.

We also got to understand that both Bona and Simba are people like us.

But one important thing that grabbed my attention was when Vicar General Father Kennedy Muguti, during his service, turned to Simba and asked: “How dare you Simba . . . kuroora muimba huru”.

Well folks, yours truly would like to congratulate everyone who made the wedding a success, especially the First Lady Amai Grace Mugabe who made sure the ceremony was flawless.

It was indeed the “Wedding of the Year” and a good show at that.

And now moving on to something different, this month M-Net Movies Showcase (DStv channel 108) will be screening more than 50 films by Steven Spielberg, undoubtedly the greatest film maker of all time, from early work such as “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” (1977) to Spielberg classics from the eighties like “Jaws”, “ET: The Extra-Terrestrial” and “The Colour Purple”; box-office sensations like “Jurassic Park” and “Hook”; serious fare such as “Schindler’s List”, “Lincoln” and “Saving Private Ryan”; and special effect showpieces like the majestic “War of the Worlds”.

There will be at least one movie directed or produced by Steven Spielberg scheduled in prime time on the M-Net Movies Showcase channel in March, but on most dates DStv movie lovers will be able to enjoy more than one.

In addition to this, the channel will also screen the two critically acclaimed mini-series “The Band of Brothers” and “The Pacific”.  There is something for everyone and plenty viewing in store for the family.

And for those who are not into movies, you can tune into Big Brother Mzansi. Yours truly is not a voyeur and could not help but notice that the popular session called the

“Shower Hour” is back.

For some strange reasons there are some housemates who take a shower with their clothes on. Others have decided not to shower at all.

I remember during the very first edition of Big Brother, the people who did not shower or those who bathed with their clothes on would be voted out in the early stages of the reality show.

Big Brother Mzansi is a bit different and even the calibre of the housemates is a bit controversial at least in other African countries.

Until next time this it television and it is real.
