TEN years after they dominated headlines, with their boardroom challenge to stop Douglas Warriors from getting promoted into the Premiership even spilling into the FIFA corridors, Simba Stars are back with a bang. While the Simba remains, the Stars have been wiped away from their name and replaced by the word Bhora.
What this means is that the Shamva team is now called Simba Bhora and they are starting from the bottom after registering to play in Division Two this year. Simba might have failed to overturn Douglas Warriors promotion, with their spirited campaign even being heard at FIFA in Zurich, but they never lost the passion for the game. After being shattered by their failure to win the boardroom case, the Simba owners decided to take a break but, earlier this year, they returned to competitive football.
And, they have come back with a bang with the club setting standards, which some Premiership clubs will certainly envy, as they acquired a luxury bus for their football club.”
’We are back, of course, and we have started from the bottom, and we have a different vision now as we want to develop young talent,’’ said club owner, Simba Ndoro. ‘’We are ambitious as a club and, hopefully, we will go all the way to the PSL this time but our emphasis is on finding and developing young footballers.
“We never left the game, we were there in the trenches, but now we have come back into the competitive leagues and in Shamva and Bindura, we have a lot of talented players who need a helping hand.
“Mushowani Stars also started with a dream and now they are in the Premiership.’’ In 2009, Simba Stars fought a bitter boardroom battle to be declared winners of the ZIFA Northern Region Division One, with eventual winners Douglas Warriors, which even spilled into the FIFA corridors.
