WHEN Bulawayo-born musician Simbarashe Kodzai popularly known as K.O.D adhered to his musical calling it was definitely no mistake, as it has evidently opened many doors for him.

With an album that boasts of many regional collaborations, K.O.D (King Of Drums) is a must look out for artiste this 2017.

Born on 6 August 1990, he was introduced to House music in 2003 and was provided the opportunity to record in 2005.

He went on to start making his own production in 2008 because he wanted to have full control of his career and creativity.

Determined to make a break in the House music genre, he joined forces with Herbal 3 Records based in South Africa, where he released hits such as In The Name Of love and Iculo Lothando.

Both songs did quite well locally.

“Music has always been my thing and I am determined to make a name for myself,” he said.

Possessing such a strong will to break into the international market, K.O.D aligns himself with Seres Producoes, a record label based in Luanda (Angola).

He is heavily influenced by the likes of Kanye West, Grego Salto, Oskido, Black Coffee, Euphonic, Dj Fresh SA, Ganyani, and Black Motion in the same level of work ethic.

K.O.D says he is a self-motivated, hardworking and God fearing individual, set to change his life and of those around him with his musical gift.

“My new EP is called Voices of the Drum. It is a work of art, which embodies the philosophy that every human being’s soul is tethered to the rhythm of the drums. “It is rooted in the myth that music is more than just sound but a deity of some sort.

Hence the title Voices of the Drum suggests that if one pays close attention to the sound of the drum beat it demands that we act in a certain way,” he said.

Talking about feature tracks to look out for in the album K.O.D said:

“The song Who am I asks the fundamental question about who we are, our values, aspirations and what are we compared to God. The Bantu Composition describes our way of life, pain, anger, love, hate betrayal, ups and downs. It is an expression of a typical day in Africa. Hold my hand expresses unconditional love and how if embraced anyone can conquer the world,” he said.

K.O.D also said he was presently working on a track with a Kenyan artiste — Inami for her forthcoming album.

“My song Underlines was compiled in Portugal by a Record label called Dadsa music and this was facilitated by the label I’m signed under Seres Producoes in Luanda Angola. I am also working on DJ Lesh SA’s All or nothing remix, not to mention Rosario’s (Angolan producer based in Portugal) Silly of Me remix.

“I will be dropping my second EP called Emotions in April and an album thereafter,” he said.

The artiste is a degreed fellow from the Midlands State University, and is a writer as well having being once attached to a local newspaper.
