Simbisa tighten grip at the top

SIMBISA continued with their fine run in the Bulawayo Corporates Social Soccer League after edging Proton 1-0 to maintain their grip at the top of the standings.

The log leaders now sit on 24 points from nine matches, two ahead of second placed Value Gas, who kept pressure on the pacesetters with a convincing 3-1 victory over struggling Evergold.

Simbisa have emerged as the team to beat this season, boasting the league’s best defensive record after conceding only six goals while scoring 25.

Hope produced the biggest result of the weekend after hammering Coca-Cola 7-2 in a goal feast that further strengthened their title ambitions. The win saw Hope move to fifth position with 18 points, just six behind leaders Simbisa.

Overnight Express also remained firmly in the title race after securing a narrow 1-0 win over Warehouse Distribution. The victory pushed Overnight to 19 points and kept them level with Warehouse Distribution, although the latter dropped to fourth place on goal difference.

At the National University of Science and Technology grounds, NUST Academy Stars and Grills shared the spoils in a 3-3 draw. The result left NUST Academy Stars on 10 points while Grills remained in the lower half of the table.

Ryding Auto continued their steady climb after defeating Lonestar 2-1, while Zimtile edged Speed Shipping 1-0.

Un the clash between Ostrich and Chibuku FC, the sides settled for a 2-2 draw.

At the foot of the table, Coca-Cola and Evergold remain in deep trouble after suffering heavy defeats over the weekend.
