LONDON. — Wearing the captain’s armband at White Hart Lane last Sunday, Luis Suarez covered every blade of grass.
Those who are fortunate enough to watch Suarez every week for Liverpool will tell you that he does that all the time. It’s how he plays the game. But with the captain’s armband on – particularly at a club where it is a symbol for so much – he raised his game to another level.
It was a masterclass in attitude, endeavour and honour. He scored twice, had a hand in three others and behaved like a choir boy.
Quite a contrast to last season. Even when he lost out in a chase with Kyle Walker that he never stood a chance of winning against the Tottenham defender, he behaved impeccably when the ball ricocheted off an advertising hoarding.
Instead of leaving the ball where he was standing – which, sadly, is standard at all levels of the game these days – he lobbed it back to Hugo Lloris.
A minor observation, perhaps, but the evidence of his increasing maturity is beginning to stack up. — Mailonline.
