SOUTH AFRICA-based songbird, Caroline Makanga, reckons she is now ready for the global stage.

The 19-year-old, who was born and bred in South Africa, believes it is her time to shine.

In an interview with H-Metro, Caroline, who has strong Zimbabwean roots, said she was destined for the stars.

“I have spent my whole life in South Africa. I started my musical journey with poetry. I did poetry at school and I am a poet.

“I ventured into music in 2017 when I did my first project.”

Caroline conceded it was not easy for her to venture into music as her parents were against the idea.

“When she (her mother) found out that I was going to the studio, ndakarohwa so bad that I could not go back again to the studio.”

The Afro pop musician, musical journey changed in 2021.

“Two years ago, I saw a riddim advertisement on Facebook and I fell in love with it as I love riding on riddims.

“I booked a session and recorded a song and the producer fell in love with my music and told me that he wanted to work with me a lot,” she said.

Caroline has been working with Extreme Records who signed her.

“People began to talk a lot saying that I was full of pride and I really got hurt.

“I decided to take a break and concentrate on my school work as my mother was really against it,” she said.

Determined to move on, Caroline used to steal money from her mother to pay for studio sessions.

“In 2022, a producer from Iton Music got in touch with me and wanted me to do an Afro pop song and I grabbed the chance.

“The track made me realise that I had a bright future in the music industry.

“I recorded a track called Murora and the song was a success as it defined me as a raw gem in the making,” said Caroline.

Last year, she penned a song titled Gehena, which was based on personal experiences.

“The song Gehena talks about the heartbreak I suffered.

“Surprisingly, people fell in love with the song and it’s moving smoothly. As a result, promoters are now realising that I have the talent and are now offering me an opportunity to perform.

“I remember a promoter called Chipaz, who sent me a text message to come and perform at an event, which shows I am on the right track.

“Afterwards, a producer from Chinhoyi got in touch with me on Facebook asking me to work on a project.

“At first, I did not respond, I think it took me two months to respond.”

She talked about the song Rovha.

“I feel the song is one of the greatest projects I have ever done.

“Cash Flow is really a good mentor to work with,” she said.

Chinhoyi-based producer, Cashflow, is ready to work with her.
