SONGBIRD Mary Anibal feels she has a big shot to influence social change through her music.
Mary released her debut album- Maria Wenyu-last Friday and says the project is a significant milestone in her career. She has featured superstar Jah Prayzah in one of the songs titled-Yeuka.
“This is a fresh and new wave of sound and a celebration of Zimbabwean music, featuring a star-studded lineup of legendary producers and instrumentalists.
“My journey to this debut album is a continuous effort to advocate for social change while captivating audiences with a soulful voice and unparalleled musical talent,” said Mary.
She feels the 10-track project has potential to break onto the international music scene.
“I am confident that the whole album has a deep connection to every Zimbabwean and also transcends borders, speaking to the heart and soul of anyone who listens,” she said.
Some of the songs on the new album include title track Maria Wenyu, Nditarirei, Rungano, Ndibatsire, Gogoride, Simuka, Parafini, Vana, and Mvura.
Mary’s album was crafted with the expertise of iconic legendary producer and artist Keith Farquharson, Trust Samende and Daniel Chiweddar.
To date, Mary has won the Best Traditional (Chinyakare/Chimurenga) at ZIMA 2023 and is an EU Ambassador for Green and Gender Equality.
Mary has a strong dedication to her craft and a passion for creating music that moves and inspires many.
