Harare-based upcoming gospel singer Cleopatra Vimbai James is set to drop her six-track album “Emotions” on Valentine’s Day.
Some of the tracks on the project include “Wandinoda”, “I do love” and “Emotions”.
“I chose February 14, Valentine’s Day, because our album is biased towards the love theme,” said Vimbai.
The 20-year-old singer started her music career at a tender age.
“I started singing when I was eight-years-old. I was then discovered by Golden Wolf and White House Records, who helped me to professionally record my music,” she said.
Apart from love, the album also tackles gender-based violence issues.
The song “Wandinoda” encourages couples to have unconditional love for each other and not to resort to violence to settle disputes.
“I am completely against any form of gender-based violence.”
Meanwhile, the musician said she plans to have a number of collaborations with top local acts.
“I wish to work with many musicians. For now, I am working with Seh Calaz on a track titled ‘Amai’, which is due for release soon.”
Meanwhile, Abel Mauchi wants to share the stage with musicians. The poet believes the move will help broaden his fan base. Mauchi, who is also an author and comedian, said his career has somewhat remained stagnant over the years.
“Musicians often have huge crowds for shows. By joining them, I will have broadened my reach,” reckons Mauchi.
“In our poetry and comedy industry, it is very rare to see anyone having live shows. Furthermore, we charge much less than musicians. I believe if I partner musicians, I will get more income for my work.”
In the past, he has worked with famous Mbende music star Rishon Murandu on a song titled “Vana Vemazuva Ano”.
The track tackles issues of drug and alcohol abuse. The poet has also engaged revered jiti singer Baba Harare for stage collaborations.
“I have thousands of followers on social media. So, if I can entertain them on that platform, nothing can stop me from doing so during live shows.”
