Sipho Sithole, a Zimbabwean producer based in South Africa was recently awarded a prestigious award in Sweden. Popularly known as RantoBokgo, the musician-cum-producer won Best Rhythm award with the group Kwaai at the Manifest Awards held in Stockholm. The singer expressed joy over his success.
“It was a big achievement for me to be recognised overseas and it is also good for our arts sector to be profiled in global events. This has motivated me to come up with better productions,” he said.
RantoBokgo is popular for his Afro-Soul/Hip Hop/Reggae sound which features some afro-reggae tone vocals accompanied by his unique acoustic guitar strumming.
The award winning artist said he is working on a new video and an album due for release in August.
“I am currently working on a 12 track album titled ‘Castle of Ruins’ that will be out in August. The album features production from Swedish and US producers.
“My new video ‘Kwaai Tour’ shot in Sweden and Denmark, along with new records recorded during the Kwaai Tour in Denmark will be out any day from now,” he said.
His single ‘Kumba Kure’ made an impact in the United States last year.
He is currently involved in a music compilation album featuring locak artists, as well as consultancy work for the Zimbabwe Rural Libraries initiative. He was on Kwaai Tour last summer where he was opening up for acts like Alicia Keys and Kendrick Lamar.
The tour was organised by his Swedish colleagues Victor Marko and Jens Siverstedt in Scandinavia, sponsored by the Swedish Arts Council and Red Bull.
RantoBokgo performed at the Fifa World Cup concertin South Africa in 2010.
He produced the Scandinavian film “Hidden Heart” which is about revealing the truth behind the intellectual property of the first human heart transplant, between Christian Barnard and Hamilton Naki. The film was a huge success at Cannes and Sundance film festivals in Europe.
