YEFTECH Sivan and TK Mapiro were in conquering form at the Kart Sport Club and Rok Cup Zimbabwe’s third race meeting last weekend at the National Sports Stadium.
The prestigious Motorsport Zimbabwe Rok Cup class continues to gain popularity with a record 15 competitors turning out for race-day.
In the Mini Rok class for drivers from 8 – 13 years old, the competition was fierce with hard racing from all the competitors throughout the day.
TK Mapiro and Tawana Shambare were separated by less than a tenth of a second in qualifying and continued their duelling most of the day with Mapiro taking the overall win after Shambare unfortunately experienced a technical issue.
Seth Rukato was in top form as well, with some fantastic racing as was newcomer Yaseen Savania, who showed his potential and Matthew Mukori proving he hasn’t lost his touch after missing the first round.
These three drivers were locked in battle in all four races. Austin Tigere made a welcome return after missing the first two rounds with newcomers Ehsaan Savania and Eli Pilossof both thoroughly enjoying their first outings.
The Kid Rok class for competitors from 6 – 9 years old saw some close racing from the clubs’ youngest guns. Elroy Shamu and Devin Van De Linde put in a master class of close racing with some exceptional race-craft shining through.
With two race wins and two second positions apiece in the club races, both drivers ended up tied on 114 points. The final results were decided on qualifying times which gave Shamu the overall win for the day by the slightest of margins.
Young Zac Staples had a good consistent day coming in third overall with the youngest drivers in the class, Joshua Phiri, Sheunesu Shambare, Manuel Mukori and new comer Rayyan Savania all proving they have a great karting future ahead of them.
The super-fast 125 Max class had a small entry due to school commitments and a sports injury for one of the drivers but it didn’t stop the red mist coming down with some hectic racing taking place.
Yeftech Sivan, back home on university vacation and relative newcomer Zaydaan Savania went head-to-head with some titanic battles and both pushing their karts to the limit with Sivan taking overall honours.
With the small entry, well known kart racer Zac Dufty made a guest appearance setting a lap record in the process but chose not to interfere with the regular competitors’ championships.
The Pole Position Karts Prokart class for the four stroke rental karts was won in dominant style by Muhammad Moosa displaying his smooth and fast driving style. Moosa won all four races and set a lap record for the class.
Club chairman Victor Shambare expressed delight with the day’s events.
“We are excited with the progress the new club and track are making and the enjoyment that competitors are having. We look forward to what’s in store at our next race meeting on the 25 June,” he said.
Rok Cup promoter Kevin Dufty added: “We very happy to see some new and old faces at the new track and look forward to even more in the future. The racing action was fantastic and we can’t wait for the rest of the season.”
