SIX ARMED robbers raided a Kwekwe business and destroyed the alarm system before tying security guards with a rope and got away with US$23000, ZG1 840-00, R24 320-00.
The incident happened on Thursday at around 12 midnight.
A source close to the incident said the six robbers who were armed with a gun and explosives.
“They destroyed the alarm system and disconnected the lights before heading to the guardroom where they manhandled two security guards and tied their hands to their backs. After that they locked them in the guardroom,” said the source.
Following that they carried out their mission.
“They headed to the room where a safe was kept and broke down the door and entered the room. They blasted the safe with explosives and took US$23000, ZWG21 840-00 and R24 320-00 before they fled,” said the source.
The security guards later untied themselves and reported the incident to the police.
Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident and appealed for information that could assist in the arrest of the six armed robbers who are on the run.
