SIX people from Mozambique were arrested and appeared in court for unlawfully entering into Zimbabwe.

Ben Zera (34), Salamao Bernado (33), Albert Mario Bernado (33), Domingos Mariano (36), Ronaldo Jose (33) and Akulano Manuere (36) all from Bauro Vumba Manica, Mozambique appeared before Mutare magistrate, Ms Prisca Manhibi charged with the contravening Section 29 (1) of the Immigration Act.

Prosecutor, Ms Tafadzwa Chiwanza said on October 28, immigration officers were on patrol in Mutare when they intercepted the Mozambican nationals at Chikanga Spar and Murahwa Green Market.

“Mario, Manuere and Jose were arrested in Chikanga, while Ben, Bernado and Mariano were arrested at Murahwa Green Market. They were selling second-hand goods which they had smuggled from Mozambique,” said Ms Chiwanza.

Ms Chiwanza said the accused persons sneaked into Zimbabwe from Mozambique through an illegal crossing point at a National Railways of Zimbabwe Base near Forbes Border Post without legal documents authorising them to enter the country.

After failing to produce valid travel documents, they were arrested and taken to Mutare Central Police Station.

Ms Manhibi fined the six $2 000 each or 10 days in prison.
