SIX GROUPS THROUGH. . . Battle for Chibuku Neshamwari gathers steam

Entertainment Reporter

SIX groups have so far made it to the Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Finals slated for August 5.

Organisers are yet to audition in four other provinces, including Harare, to bring the total number of finalists to 10.

Groups that have made it so far are; Jeketera Renyaningwe (Masvingo), Swerengoma Arts (Mash Central), Imvimbi Dance Group (Mat North), Makarekare Dance Group (Mash East), Mbada Dance Group (Midlands) and Sekunjalo Ma-Africa (Bulawayo).

“We are happy to make it past the provincial stage again and book a place at the national finals.

“This has been a great year for the group and we hope to do things right this year so that we claim the grand prize come August,” said Sekunjalo Ma-Africa director Arnold Ndebele.

This is the third time the group has booked a place at the national finals.

But, they are still falling short of the required performance to land them the first prize.

This Saturday the auditions head to Chegutu, Mashonaland West, at Gatsi Beer Garden.

Prospective candidates from Harare will have to wait for July 15 for the battle.

The dance showcase is sponsored by Delta Corporation, through its flagship brand, Chibuku, which also celebrated its 60th anniversary last year.

Participants are required to register their groups with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe and ZNTDA to be able to participate.

Last year, Mutare’s Dapurahunanzva Dance Troupe won the competition.
