adminMhondoro, Advisor Gunguya (20) of Nyamhunga in Kariba, Peter Mutandagavi (18) of Gweru, Isaac Madhiri Murau (21) of Mhondoro, Johane Wasuka (20) also of Mhondoro and Ernest Muringayi of Kutama in Zvimba presented fake certificates at the ZNA Inkomo Mechanised Brigade call-up on April 21.
The six pleaded guilty to forgery charges under the Zimbabwe Examinations Council Act when they appeared before Chinhoyi magistrate Mr Felix Mawadze, who accordingly found them guilty. Mr Mawadze sentenced the six to six months’ imprisonment or alternatively a fine of US$80 each.
The sentence was suspended on condition that they each performed 35 hours community service at different public institutions. He said the deplorable behaviour should be punished but also considered that they were youthful first offenders. Prosecutor Mr Tinashe Dzvore proved that on April 21 the six presented the Zimsec results slips indicating that they sat for their Ordinary Level examinations in 2011.
Chifana presented her slip to the administrations officer, Mr Chamunorwa Makanga, which indicated that she had 4 Cs, a D and 2 Es. Mr Chamunorwa noticed that the slip was different from those of others who sat the same year. Gunguya had 4 Bs, 2 As, a C and a D, Mutandagavi (1 B, 4 Cs, 1 D and an E), Murau (4 Cs, a D and an E), Wasuka (2 Ds, 3 Es, 2 Us) and Muringayi (2 Cs and 4 Us).
Again the slips were different from the genuine ones. Mr Mawadze said the six could have prejudiced other deserving candidates who had the required qualifications as they had already passed the first stage of the entry process by completing the marathon. — The Herald.
