Governor of Harare Province, Sharon Simbachako, said the donation was the beginning of a fruitful relationship.
“We just felt that as the junior parliamentarians we have the mandate to help fellow children. We as children are leaders of tomorrow and there is need to foster that feeling of togetherness among us. The donation is just the beginning,” said Simbachako.
Director of Harare Children’s Home Maria Sithole expressed gratitude tos the junior parliamentarians for their good gesture.
“I would like to thank you for the support you have shown us. You realised that something needs to be done towards the welfare of fellow brothers and sisters.
“As an institute we depend on well-wishers like you for the support of children. Harare Children’s Home accommodates 110 children starting from birth up to 18 years. The children are either abandoned or abused by relatives who are unwilling to keep them.”
Sithole said the institution currently runs fund-raising projects to keep up the welfare of the children.
“We have introduced fund-raising projects to finance the upkeep of children. We are growing vegetables and selling eggs.”
Co-ordinator of Junior Parliament from Zimbabwe Youth Council Yolanda Washaya pledged their support to raise finance for the upkeep of the children at the institution.
“As the custodians of the junior parliamentarians we are going to arrange a fun day at Mwana Dreampark to market the place and also to raise money for the institution”. — Herald.
