Six men arrested for illegal alluvial mining in Mvuma

Six men were arraigned before Mvuma Magistrates’ Court for violating the Mines and Minerals Act by prospecting for gold without a permit.

In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) revealed that George Moyo (19), John Mapfumbidze (31), Nyasha Mavhiza (25), Tendai Mavhiza(18) Bernard Mavhiza (27), Sam Musariri (30) and Moses Chikozho (29) were charged for contravening with Section 140 of the Environment Agency Act “control of alluvial mining”.

It is alleged that the accused persons on 26 October 2024, at Matote farm along Mubvumbi river in Mvuma, unlawfully carried out alluvial gold mining activities where they were mining within the prohibited 200 meters from the river bed.

Each accused person was granted US$100 bail and remanded to 6 November 2024.
