Chegutu man jailed for rape

A 20-YEAR-OLD man from Chegutu was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment after facing charges of rape.

He was arraigned before the Kadoma Magistrate’s Court.

According to a statement by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the accused person was left in the custody of the complainant who is nine years old together with her two younger siblings on 1 April 2024, the accused person gave the younger siblings groundnuts and instructed them to get into the kitchen and they compiled.

“The accused person grabbed the complainant’s hand and pushed her into her grandmother’s bedroom, he ordered her to lie on the floor but she refused, the accused person pushed her to the floor before raping her,” said the NPAZ.

The complainant’s father arrived and saw the accused person hiding behind the door and asked the complainant what was happening and she disclosed the offense.
