A-SIX-YEAR-OLD boy drowned in Umguza River between Bulawayo’s Mahatshula and Woodville suburbs while playing with friends on Sunday afternoon.

Brandon Maparutsa’s father left him playing with three other boys aged five, six and seven.

A source close to the investigations said the four boys decided to leave the house and went to play at Umguza River.

“While the boys played at the river bank, Brandon slipped and fell into the river where he drowned. When his friends saw him drown, one of them ran back home and informed his parents,” said the source.

Bulawayo Metropolitan Province police spokesperson Inspector Precious Simango confirmed the incident.

“We received a report of a six-year-old boy who drowned while playing with friends and investigations are underway,” she said.
