A 19-YEAR-OLD Nkayi man allegedly raped his younger sister (6). The man’s rape trial failed to kick off at the regional court recently as his sister burst into tears and could not say a word even while in camera.
Regional magistrate Mr Mark Dzira remanded the accused in custody to August 10. The State indicated that the girl had to be separated from her parents as her evidence had been tampered with.
Prosecuting Mr Tinashe Dzipe alleges that sometime between January and February this year, the man called his sister to his room.
“When she entered his room, he knelt down and undressed her. He then raped her once and dressed her up before leaving the hut. The girl didn’t disclose the matter to anyone,” said Mr Dzipe.
“The man called his sister to follow him outside on a different day. He then raped her behind their kitchen hut after asking her to sit on his lap.”
The court heard that the girl did not tell anyone about the incident.
“On February 8, the girl realised that she was bleeding from her privates and notified her father. When her mother got back from work, she examined her and took her to the hospital for treatment,” said Mr Dzipe. “The girl later told her mother that she had informed her class teacher about the rape. A police report was made leading to her brother’s arrest.”
