The members of Siyalima Irrigation scheme are expecting to harvest more than 300 tonnes of winter wheat on their 50-hectare farm as part of their contributon to the provincial production target of over 240 000 tonnes this year.
Established in 2015 as part of the Presidential mechanisation program, the scheme has acquired a 10-tonne truck in addition to other equipment provided by President Mnangagwa.

The chairperson of the scheme, Mr Godfrey Chimufombo, attributed the success of the scheme to teamwork, hard work, and transparency.

They closely collaborate with Agritex officers and the Development Aid from People to People (DAPP).

Mr Chimufombo however expressed concern about late payments from the Grain Marketing Board (GMB) affecting production, as well as challenges with late delivery of inputs and vandalism of equipment, including a transformer.

He also expressed concern over fishmongers who are stealing fish from their dam. Mr Chimufombo said going forward they are preparing to launch piggery and poultry projects soon.

Agritex deputy director Mr Misheck Chitokomere encouraged the 56 members of the irrigation scheme to continue working hard.
