THE annual Sizinda Has Got Talent search competition kicked off last weekend in Bulawayo’s Sizinda suburb attracting hundreds of participants.
The competition runs for six weeks and is held at Sizinda Beer Garden. The competition ideally seeks to nurture and promote local talent from Sizinda and surrounding suburbs that include Tshabalala, Nketa and Nkulumane.
The competition is regarded as one of the city’s premium talent search competitions that have provided a platform for many upcoming artistes.
It is rated third from the Amakhosi Cultural Centre’s Dreams to Fame and Iyasa’s Isiphiwo Sami Talent competitions.
It focuses on all art genres.
Chris Ndlovu the public relations manager of the event said the competition had grown compared to previous editions.
“The competition is growing bigger and better than our previous editions. We have so far recorded a high number of participants and the audience that comes to support the show,” said Ndlovu.
Ndlovu said the aim of the competition was to nurture the hidden talent in Sizinda and surrounding areas.
“The aim of the completion is to identify and expose local talent. We seek to promote and showcase their talent at national level, where they will stand a better chance of becoming superstars,” said Ndlovu.
To kick start the completion, they hosted a road show to announce the event.
“We had a road show as a way of popularising the event to people in Sizinda, Tshabalala, Nkulumane and Nketa. We wanted to alert them that this year’s edition was opened,” he said.
Ndlovu added that the response had left them inspired to expand the programme to provincial level.
“Our hope is that, we continue to receive corporate support from well wishers. We are now inspired to believe that given enough resources we can proceed to host a Bulawayo has got talent show. This suggests that there is a lot of talent out there which needs to be exposed,” he said.
The event is being sponsored by Ingwebu Breweries, Stratia Beverages, Savanna Tobacco, General Bedding and African Distillers.
Previous winners of the competition include local musician Zibozizodwa Ncube.
