Born on January 10 2003 at Northend Hospital in Bulawayo no-one ever thought Isaac Ncube would emerge into a fine tuned young drummer who can entertain at the highest levels.
Isaac (11) who is a Grade Six pupil at ZRP Tomlison Depot Primary school in Harare can play the drum imitating ZBC-TV news drum beat such that if he plays the drums indoors many people can rush indoors thinking it will be news time.
He is also a great traditional dancer and many feel the sky is the limit for the young boy.
Small to Medium Enterprises and Cooperative Development Minister Stembiso Nyoni who was officiating at the Zimbabwe Republic Police Kuyedza Women’s Club Annual show last week at Morris Depot applauded the talent of Isaac which she said must be nurtured.
Isaac is the second born in a family of three having a young brother who is one year five months old.
The highly active and jovial boy said his hobbies are traditional dance but interestingly he wants to be a pilot when he grows up.
His mother is ZRP Sergeant Kudakwashe Ncube who described her son’s talent as amazing.
“When he was still young he used to imitate ZBC-TV news hour drums beating plastic bottles and we used to think it will go away with time but it seems it is getting worse.
“When we were called to school by his teacher telling us the talent he had when he was in Grade Two, I personally did not like it since I am a member of the apostolic sect, I viewed it as ungodly. He used to play the drum while standing on a chair because he was too short to reach the drum.
“When I realised that is what he enjoys most I was forced to accept it.
“I now support him we never know he might earn a living out of this,” she said.
Isaac’s teacher refused to comment for fear of violating police service protocol.
His father Assistant Inspector Lovemore Ncube said he is amazed at his son’s talent describing it as a miracle since there is no one from the two families who used to play drums or was involved in traditional dance.
“The young man surprises me, I come from Tsholotsho and his mother comes from Marondera, there is no one who plays drums or involved in traditional dance.
“During ‘News Hour’ he used to imitate playing the drum and we thought it was one of those things children will do.
“When he was in Grade Three we started receiving reports about his talent at school and we were amazed. We finally decided to start supporting him and he is enjoying it very much,” he said.
