been a professional designer for over two years specialising in bridesmaids’‘ dresses, men’s wear, haute couture and corporate fashion among others.
“I have been overwhelmed by the response of the people since I started exhibiting my designs to the public.
“The response has been overwhelming and it has encouraged me to continue working hard and design more outfits,” she said.
Mutanda owns her own label, Paper Khaki, and designed the dress worn by Tinashe Chiyambukire, who was voted Miss Personality at the Harare Junior pageant held early this year.
The lanky designer has always had a passion for designing since she was still at primary school.
“I started my designing career when I was still at school and my parents and teachers advised me to take designing seriously,” Mutanda said.
She added that the shape of buildings and animals inspires her designs.
Although she anticipates some challenges to crop up every now and then, Mutanda says she dreams of seeing her works going inter-national.
“My goal is for my garments to be worn by people the world over and to exhibit at the New York Fashion Week,” she said.
Mutanda was born in Harare and she did her primary and secondary education at Waddilove High School.
She then moved to Durban, South Africa, where she attained a certificate in fashion and designing.
She urged Zimbabweans to move with the times and embrace the new trends in fashion, which have seen purple, yellow and floral print being the colours of this summer.
