Skyz Metro FM celebrates seven years

FOR seven years Skyz Metro FM has taken it upon itself not to only entertain, inform and educate listeners in Bulawayo and surrounding areas, but to also nurture budding musicians in Matabeleland region.

The radio station has provided a platform for local artistes to showcase their talent and gain exposure. Chronicle Showbiz caught up with the acting General Manager of Fairtalk Communications, Desire Mlalazi who took us through the journey of Skyz Metro FM and how it has been of use to the local community.

“We have supported the local artistic community by providing opportunities for growth. A number of artistes from Plumtree, Tsholotsho and Gwanda have been given a platform which they could not get from national radio stations. With our music rotation system, we have been able to help promote hit songs such as Madlela’s Ngamnanka usaMaMo among others and we have helped create and celebrate the success of our local celebrities, he said.

Mlalazi said in terms of entertainment and cultural preservation, Skyz Metro has contributed to the celebration and preservation of local culture by airing local music, stories and promoting local events such as festivals.

To celebrate its seven-year anniversary, Skyz Metro is expanding its radio reach, introducing new frequencies and organising events.

“Our theme for our seventh anniversary is ‘journey to new horizons, celebrating seven years beyond the Sky.’ This theme captures the idea of us exploring new, uncharted territories and pushing boundaries. It reflects the station’s growth and achievements over the past seven years, highlighting our ability to go beyond the norm and reach for higher goals. The theme also creates a sense of excitement, letting you know that the best is yet to come for Skyz Metro FM.

“Many of our listeners have expressed gratitude to Skyz Metro FM saying the station has greatly impacted their lives.

“They have shared stories of how our programming has inspired them to pursue their dreams, taught them valuable life skills and provided them with a sense of community belonging and support.

“Listeners have written to us via WhatsApp expressing how our music selection has brought them comfort during difficult times and uplifted their spirits. They have shared stories of how our talk shows have provided them with valuable information on topics such as health, education and personal development leading to positive changes in their lives,” he said. — @TashaMutsiba.
