Tswana dance sensation Slizer, real name Naledi Kaisara, will headline the Tourism Night this Saturday at Victoria Falls Primary School.
She will be joined by several local artistes Alick Macheso, Jah Prayzah, Suluman Chimbetu, Winky D, Sandra Ndebele and Mokoomba.Zimbabwe Tourism Authority spokesperson Sugar Chagonda said Slizer was chosen to perform at the prestigious event because of her unwavering dedication to promote Zimbabwe.
“She is the only regional artiste who approached us to work together in promoting the image of Zimbabwe.
“We have worked with her in the past and we know what she is capable of doing,” he said.
Slizer has already released a DVD and CD on Zimbabwe’s rich cultural and tourism sites, a project that was intended to enhance the country’s image as it prepares to host the UNWTO 20th General Assembly.
In an interview with a Tswana newspaper, Mmegi before she had embarked on the project, Slizer said she decided to partner the ZTA in producing a musical project that will market Zimbabwe to both the local and international community.
“I am fascinated by the people of Zimbabwe and their culture. It’s so nice and my next songs are dedicated to this beautiful country.
“I have heard a lot of bad things about Zimbabwe, but to me it’s totally the opposite.
“Zimbabwe is beautiful and I am going to show that in my songs,” she was quoted as saying in Mmegi.
“Nyika YeZimbabwe”, an eight-minute song, gives a chronology of tourist sites in Zimbabwe, right from Zambezi to Limpopo, including its impressive flora, its array of wild animals and its hospitable people.
Sung in Shona, the song has got a laid back contemporary beat, which is fused with a bit of kwaito, making it quite a danceable track.
Her pronunciation of Shona is quite distinct, clear and concise, something that probably emanates from her unwavering passion and love for Zimbabwe.
Slizer has fallen in love with Zimbabwe ever since she staged her debut show in the country two years ago.
She has been in the country several times ever since performing with the likes of sungura king Alick Macheso, dendera exponent Suluman Chimbetu and First Farai, among others.
However, this time around she is sharing the stage with Zimbabwe’s traditional dance queen Sandra Ndebele in what promises to be a clash of dances.
Slizer is famed for his heart-throbbing seductive dances while Sandy introduced what later became known as “thigh dances”.
