SMEs undergo training

GZCB secretary-general Mr Oliver Baloyi said many small businesses were facing challenges in running their enterprises as most of them were ignorant of key business practices.

“As a chamber we have realised that there are a lot of grey areas within our members with the most affected being business in the rural set-up. Many businesses are ignorant of the importance of some important business practice,” said Mr Baloyi.

“We are training them to write business proposals, cash flow projections and profit and loss statements. We are assisted by the Ministry of Small to Medium Enterprises. All sectors are attended to and our aim is to cover all seven districts in the province,” he said.

Mr Baloyi said there is a team comprising personnel from the Ministry of SMEs and some technical people with sound business knowledge responsible in facilitating the programme.

“We have identified technical people with relevant business acumen to be the main drivers of this noble programme.

“We endeavour to impart skills that will add value to all participants. The training has been well received and the uptake is very encouraging,” he said.

He said they started with Zaka district where the meeting was oversubscribed adding that rural businesses should take advantage of such rare opportunities.

“Our next port of call will be Bikita. We are happy because many businesses that we have dealt are valuing the importance of capacity building,” he said.
