TWO Mozambican nationals were on Tuesday arrested after they were found in possession of smuggled bales of second-hand clothes in Mutare.
Acting on a tip-off, police ambushed and nabbed Antony Mabote (22) and Anderson Thomas (18) in a bushy area in Greenside suburb.
The pair was nabbed while awaiting transportation to Sakubva after smuggling the consignment through an illegal point near Marymount Teachers’ College.
Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka said a team of operatives from Mutare Central Police Station was already conducting an anti-smuggling operation when they received the tip-off that led to the duo’s arrest.
“When our officers arrived at the scene, the suspects, who were sitting on the bales, attempted to flee but were quickly apprehended. A total of seven sealed bales of second-hand clothes were seized,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
The two suspects were taken to Mutare Central Police Station together with the consignment.
