SHE lost a leg but never lost hope.
Nomabutho Ncube, the brave girl from Nkayi who made headlines after a venomous snake bite left her crawling to school, is still going strong — and walking tall — years after tragedy struck!
Bitten back in 2016 while in Grade Four, Nomabutho’s life was thrown into chaos when her leg had to be amputated at Gweru Provincial Hospital. For months, the determined young girl crawled several kilometres to school, refusing to let her condition stop her.
But her story took a miraculous turn when Leonard Cheshire Disability Zimbabwe stepped in, donating her very first artificial leg, allowing her to walk again like any other child.

Now a student at Tsheli Secondary School, the resilient teen has just received a brand new artificial leg, this time courtesy of CAMFED Zimbabwe, after outgrowing the first one.
“Nomabutho is growing, and we’re thrilled she’s now comfortable with her new leg,” said Mrs Ophia Bwanali of Leonard Cheshire Disability Zimbabwe. “We aim to improve the lives of people living with disabilities through our customised support.”

Nomabutho’s courage and determination continue to inspire her community, and she’s become a living symbol of hope — proof that even after a deadly snake bite, one can still rise, walk, and thrive.
Talk about turning pain into power!
