Snake torments family for seven months

Hazel Marimbiza
A LUPANE family, heaved a sigh of relief when a huge elusive snake which had terrorised them for the past seven months was killed by one of the family members.

The snake also had a tendency of regularly biting the familyas chickens.

a?My chickens always had bites on them and most of them died. I suspect those bites came from the snake,a? said Never Ngwenya the head of the family.

Every morning Ngwenya tried to kill the 2,42-metre long snake but it would somehow escape and slither up one of his trees and stay there.

At one point he even tried asking for help from neighbours but they could not kill it.

Ngwenya finally killed the snake on Friday last week.

Before killing it Ngwenya and the family hardly slept as the snake would hiss loudly at night as if it was inside the house.

Ngwenya said what terrified him most was that every morning the snake would be at the same spot and this led to the family thinking it might be a goblin.

a?The snake was strange because it acted like it was sent by someone. Trying to kill the snake was always fruitless. It would untangle itself and slither up a tree which is in our yard and then it would immediately disappear,a? said Ngwenya.

Ngwenyaas wife Catherine Nkomo said what shocked them was that as the days proceeded the snake was fast changing its colour.

a?At first the snake was green in colour but as the days went by half of its body was slowly turning to black,a? said Nkomo.

Nkomo expressed relief at the snakeas death.

a?At least my husband managed to kill it before it attacked any of us,a? said Nkomo.
