Johnson Nkomazana a former teammate confirmed this morning that Ncube died on Monday following a long battle with cancer that started in February 2023.Ncube joined Horrors in the late 1960s and saw them go through promotion to play in the Rhodesia South Zone Soccer League formed in 1977 by Highlanders who had pulled out of John Madzima’s Rhodesia National Football League.
He was one of the stand-out players of the club and the League. He played as a midfielder and was at home in both attack and defence.
At Black Horrors, alongside Onias Musana and Lemmy Mnenekwa, they were the pillars of the club and helped the team reach dizzy heights.
Their best performance and also by any Plumtree football club was reaching the semi-finals of the Chibuku Trophy in 1979.
They were beaten by a star-studded Caps United, then known as Caps Rovers 2-0. The Harare side had Stephen Chisango, Dickson Ngwanya, Stanford Stix M’tizwa and the late trio Stanley Ndunduma, Shaky Tauro and Joel Shambo.
