MUTARE’s flagship social soccer outfit, Socco Golden Stars, will be in the Mashonaland East capital of Marondera on Saturday for a match against the town’s football legends – Marondera Legends.
The match kicks off at 3pm at Rudgakwa Stadium.
Saturday’s encounter in Marondera is a precursor to next weekend’s big clash against the highly‑rated musician Freeman’s Gallis, to be played at Mutare Showgrounds.
Socco Golden Stars administrator Tatenda ‘Gede’ Matiringe confirmed the match.
“This is part of our pre‑season preparations and we believe playing against Marondera Legends will give us a picture of our strengths and weaknesses. Our main objectives are to reach out to all parts of Manicaland province and the nation at large in fighting against drug and substance abuse through the use of role models who are known former footballers,” he said.
Under the guidance of club chairman Tinashe Gukushu, Marondera Legends comprises former footballers such as Witness Chinoza, Elvis Chaperuka, Wiseman Mutenda, Herit Sarukambe (the FC Hunters assistant coach), Gonde Mwedziwendira, Dennis Dzere, Phillip Tonha, Kennedy Teerechiri and Wellington Mukuruva (the coach), among many others.
