Social protection information system launched

THE recently launched Integrated Social Protection Management Information System (ISPMIS) will improve service delivery in social protection programming, according to Tajudeen Oyewale, UNICEF Zimbabwe representative.

The system uses digital technology to provide harmonised implementation of social protection programmes, while increasing transparency and good governance.

The ISPMIS will enable programmes to identify beneficiaries effectively, report on assistance provided and enhance the system’s resilience. Although the system has already achieved a lot, financial and technical support is required for further optimisation.

“The ISPMIS, as envisioned, will play a pivotal role in achieving this objective by effectively identifying beneficiaries, capturing their information, reporting on the assistance provided, and ensuring predictable and regular assistance.

“Furthermore, it will enhance the resilience of the system to shocks and enable timely responses.

“This comprehensive information system will contribute towards addressing issues such as fragmentation, duplication, double dipping, and overlaps, and will enhance the sector’s efficiency.

“Despite the achievements thus far, there are areas of further improvements for which technical and financial support will be required to fully optimise the ISPMIS,” Oyewale said.

The system has been piloted in nine cyclone-affected districts, Chikomba, Mutare, Chipinge, Buhera, Chimanimani, Masvingo, Zaka, Gutu and Chiredzi.
